Putin: Russia must expand satellite fleet to improve connection

MOSCOW, Feb 20 (PRIME) -- Russia must expand its satellite constellation to revolutionize connection and navigation, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday in his address to the Federal Assembly, both houses of the parliament.

“Already this year, we should adopt a general map of development of digital economy infrastructure, including telecommunications networks, capacities of storage and processing of data. The task of the coming years is to organize universal access to the high-speed Internet and start exploitation of connection systems of the fifth generation, 5G,” Putin said.

“For a real revolution in connection, navigation, creation of systems of the Earth’s remote sensing, we should increase by several times capacities of our satellite fleet. Russia possesses unique technologies for this.”

The tasks entail a qualitative upgrade of the whole space industry, the president said.
